These photographs were taken by Gino Cigarini (1912-1996), an official Italian Army photographer. During the colonial campaign in the Horn of Africa, he was assigned to the 14th Film and Photo Unit, 8th Regiment, Corps of Engineers. The holdings feature approximately 900 pictures (1933-1942), about 500 of which were taken in Ethiopia between October 1935 and December 1937. The pictures are stored at Istoreco, the Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Society, in Reggio Emilia.
